Eye Health Exams

Eye diseases often go unnoticed, as they show few symptoms at first. Only a trained optometry professional can see the signs before it's too late. At Chico Vision Care Optometry, we have years of experience performing eye health exams for residents of Chico, CA, and the surrounding areas.

What Is an Eye Health Exam?

Our optometrist will test your visual acuity (sharpness), depth perception, eye alignment, and eye movement. Our optometrist will then use eye drops to enlarge your pupils to check for any signs of health or vision problems. Our optometrist may spot other conditions while examining your eyes, including high blood pressure and diabetes.

The Importance of Eye Exams

Just like with any health concern, early treatment is vital to prevent common eye diseases from causing permanent vision loss or blindness. Some conditions we regularly detect during eye health exams include:

  • Cataracts (clouding of the lens)
  • Diabetic retinopathy, which causes damage to blood vessels in the back of the eye
  • Glaucoma, a group of diseases that damages the optic nerve
  • Age-related macular degeneration, which is the gradual breakdown of light-sensitive eye tissue

Other Reasons To See Our Optometrist

If you start to experience any of the following eye problems, don't wait for your next appointment—visit your optometrist ASAP.

  • Decreased vision
  • Eyes that are red or draining
  • Pain in the eye(s)
  • Double vision
  • Floaters (specks that appear to float before your eyes)
  • Halos around lights
  • Flashes of light

Statistics show that of the estimated 93 million U.S. adults at high risk for vision loss, only 50 percent visited an optometrist within the last year.
