Contact Lenses FAQs

How do I get contact lenses?

Getting contacts begins with an evaluation by your optometrist in Chico, CA. A comprehensive eye exam will determine if your eyes are in good enough health for contacts. You’ll also need a contact lenses exam to get an accurate prescription for contacts and determine the type of contacts that best suits your visual needs.

What happens during a contact lens fitting?

After your initial eye exam, your eye doctor will give you a contact lenses exam to get an accurate prescription for wearing contacts. We’ll also measure the lens, cornea, and pupil of your eye to get an idea of the type and size of contacts you need. Lastly, we’ll fit your eyes with trial lenses to see how they feel and work for you.

What types of contact lenses are there?

Contacts basically fall into three categories: Traditional soft lenses, which are the most common, rigid gas-permeable (RGP) lenses, and hybrid lenses. Under these categories, you will find all kinds of variations, such as disposable contacts, daily and extended wear contacts, bi-focal, and multi-focal contacts, and more. We’ll discuss these options with you and help you choose lenses that suit your prescription, budget, and lifestyle.

What’s the difference between hard and soft contact lenses?

The main difference between soft and hard contacts is their composition. Soft contacts are composed of soft, porous plastic material mixed with water. Air can easily pass through this material to nurture the cornea of your eye. In contrast, hard contacts are composed of a rigid material that offers less comfort but provides clearer sight.

How long will it take to adjust to contacts?

Some people adjust to contacts within a few days, while others take longer. Soft contacts are the easiest to adjust to. Hybrid and RGP contacts may take several weeks to get used to due to their rigid composition.
